What is the HUB?
The HUB is a network gaming club in Wellington, New Zealand. We meet once a month at the
lanplace where we bring our computers, hook them up together and play multiplayer computer games.
When do you meet?
The HUB meets once a month, on the last Saturday of the month. You can see the date of past and future events
on the events page.
Where is the lanplace venue?
Level 4, Eagle Technology House, Willis St in Wellington central. It is the same building as "the Sony centre" and
not far from Mid City cinemas.

What time does it start?
10 am on the Saturday of the event. Not 9:59am, 10am. On the dot.
When does it finish?
10 am on the Sunday. Again, on the dot :)
What do I need to bring?
You, your computer, your monitor (unless you decide to hire one), Headphones, cables to connect 'em up, the ability to connect 'em up,
$25 for registration + any food / transport money etc that you might need, and the MAC address of your Network card.
What can't I bring?
Multi Boxes - these are provided and you are NOT allowed to plug your own in to the lanplace power outlets. Don't do it.
Speakers - these are prohibited. If you bring some, they will be confiscated until the end of the event and you will
either have to go without sound or use a set of crappy headphones which we will provide.
Bad attitudes - if you give us (or anyone else) grief, you will find out very quickly that you just made a big mistake. There
are some very heavy set geeks out there and they are allllll on my side. Don't tempt fate.
UTP cables - we will provide cables to connect you to the network.
Servers - we have lots of high-spec machines for serving games / websites / ftp servers and the like so you don't need to bring
your own. However, if you do, be aware that you will need to pay an additional $25 per machine you bring...
What's a MAC address?
A MAC address is what identifies your network card or other network device (like a cable modem for example) on the network.
Why do you need my MAC address?
The lanplace network is setup in such a way that when you pay your fee, you allow your MAC address to access the network. If we don't know
your MAC address, you will not be able to use your computer on the network. Be very sure and give us the correct MAC address for the correct
network card in your PC to avoid hassles on the day / having to pay twice.
How do I find out my MAC address?
If you are running windows 9x, simply hit start, go to run and type "winipcfg" and hit enter. That will load the Windows IP Configuration
program - once there, select your network card from the drop down list and copy down what it says in "Adapter address". If you are running
Windows NT / 2000, simply drop to a command prompt and type "ipconfig /all" - note down what it says in "Physical Address"
What happens if I register and then don't turn up on the day?
You will be barred from registering from the site from then on. The only way you would then be able to attend a HUB event would be to wait
for any spots to become available on the day, after any last minute cancellations etc.
Wow! That's pretty harsh - how do I avoid that?!
Turn up. Or, make it known to an organiser that you will not be attending.
What is the deadline for cancelling a registration?
72 hours before an event is scheduled to begin. Obviously, extenuating circumstances will be investigated by the organisers, should you miss
this deadline - but it had better be a very good excuse... Also, some attempt should be made to contact the organisers - we are all available
via ICQ at the event and we have cellphones etc, plus you will most likely know someone else at the event and so on. Please don't just not tell
us. Thanks :)
So, what advantages do HUB members get when registering?
If a HUB member registers within 7 days of the event, they get in. It's that simple. Even if the house is already full, a member will displace
a non member in a "last in, first dropped" basis. We don't play favorites here so it's in your interest to a)be a member and b)get in quick.
Member? What's that?
HUB members are people who pay an annual subscription in return for better access to lanplace facilities (rcon on game servers etc), better
facilities on this website (anyone want their own column? for example), the ability to choose their own seats and guaranteed access to events,
within reason. The subscription fee in the past has been $50 annually but as the feature set has changed, the amount is yet to be decided. Also,
this means that any membership signups are frozen until further notice.
How do I contact an Organiser?
Simply click here to send them an email or you can ICQ Phantom on 5740818.
